The Billionaire Brat is back! But this time, I’m officially a Finance Girly, ready to deliver the most accurate and up-to-date financial advice. How, you ask? Earlier this year, I decided to go back to school to pursue a degree in accounting. Soon, I’ll not only have the knowledge but also the certification to back up everything I want to share with you all. Period.
Initially, I planned to stop at an associate’s degree, but now I’m going all in for my bachelor’s and my CPA license. I started classes in May during the summer semester, just wrapped up the fall semester last week, and guess what? I’ve been getting all A’s and B’s in my courses. Go me!
So, why go back to school in my late 20s? Simple: I want to become a master of money. While I’m great at making money and, let’s be honest, spending it, I’ve always struggled with taxes and properly managing my funds. Gaining these skills will help me elevate my financial game and improve my overall quality of life. How can I truly call myself the Billionaire Brat if I’m not well-rounded in all aspects of money?
One of my biggest goals is to learn the secrets that millionaires and billionaires use to hold on to more of their money. That means diving deep into taxes and the tax code. Unfortunately, this kind of information isn’t widely shared in the Black community. Sure, I could do a few Google searches and pick up some tips, but I want to fully understand the ins and outs of it all. That’s why school feels like the right move for me.
Another reason I’m investing in my education is to protect myself. I’ve heard too many stories of entrepreneurs, athletes, and celebrities being taken advantage of simply because they didn’t know better. I refuse to hire someone who might steal from me right under my nose. With my future plans for multiple businesses and nonprofits, I need to make sure I’m financially literate enough to spot any red flags. Knowledge is power, and I’m claiming mine.
There are also personal reasons for going back to school. I want to accomplish something I’ve never done before, make my grandparents proud, and add some excitement to my life—because let’s face it, adulting was getting a little boring. Plus, this is an investment in my future wealth. The timing feels perfect because, honestly, I wouldn’t have been this focused a decade ago. So here I am, on this new journey, loving the college experience and leveling up in every way. The Billionaire Brat is becoming the master of her money, and I’m taking you all along for the ride. Let’s get rich together, Finance Girlies!
